Since our foundation’s inception, we have often found ourselves characterizing the work we do by saying “We provide critical funding at critical times.” But what do we mean by that?
What we really mean is that we seek out partners that reach people in their darkest moments. In times when all hope seems lost. These organizations provide the tools to transform lives for the better and restore lost hope.
We trust our community partners to know where the greatest need is and how the greatest positive impact can be made. Drawing on their expertise and deep understanding of today’s societal challenges, they’re able to leverage resources strategically for the greater good.
From at-risk youth and families experiencing homelessness to our nation’s heroes who are suffering and those who are looking for opportunities to pursue the American Dream, there is much work to be done. We’re proud to say we’re in the fight for the long haul simply because it is the right thing to do.
Read on to learn more about our fantastic community partners who are changing lives in those critical moments when they’re needed most.
Many of today’s youth do not have the positive influence of a parent, teacher, relative or mentor to keep them on track. This fuels school dropout rates, teen pregnancy, and higher incarceration rates.
Elevate Phoenix works with students who are on the verge of dropping out and envelopes them in their holistic approach that includes a full-time, teacher-mentor, year-round programming, cross-age mentoring and long-term, meaningful relationships. Elevate Phoenix steps in at that critical time when youth are vulnerable and guides them to graduation, and onward to college. From there, the possibilities are endless.
Veterans, active-duty military, and civilians alike are suffering from debilitating mental health conditions like PTSD, depression, and anxiety. It is no secret that we are in the midst of a mental health crisis in America, and that existing treatments aren’t enough.
The Food and Drug Administration’s decision last year to withhold approval for MDMA-assisted therapy cast uncertainty as to how and when psychedelic therapy will be broadly available, but also made clear that there is a critical need to advance rigorous psychedelic research. At a time when it felt like momentum in the field of psychedelics was slowing, we wanted the good scientists at Mount Sinai and our other partners to know, we’re in this fight together for the long haul.
Breaking the cycle of homelessness is more difficult than you might imagine. Even if a person experiencing homelessness has a job, it is incredibly difficult to save enough to maintain safe, secure housing – let alone afford life’s other expenses.
This is where St. Joseph the Worker’s Workforce Villages program comes in. While clients are employed, they can access free housing for 90 days, the only requirement being they save 70-80% of their income. While in the program, participants can also access personal finance, budgeting, and life skills resources, all of which provide a solid foundation to secure permanent housing after the program. St. Joseph the Worker not only reaches these vulnerable folks at a critical time to get them back on their feet, they also set them up for success long term.
Reintegration into the civilian world after military service is a tough transition on its own. Coming home with a critical illness or injury and trying to find a new “normal” can seem nearly impossible.
When active-duty military, veterans, and their families are at their most vulnerable, The Fund steps in with a wide range of support services to help them create a meaningful, purpose-driven life.
Through financial assistance, case management, wellness support, and beyond, The Fund stands by these heroes for a lifetime, reminding them that they are never alone. Learn more about the record-breaking 13th year of the Double Down for Veterans Campaign here.
When served by The Fund for 3+ years, veterans are 75% less likely to experience suicidal ideation and 67-80% less likely to experience depression/anxiety.
