Make-A-Wish® Arizona Wish Ball raises more than $765,000 to help fund 100+ future wishes.

PHOENIX (April 16, 2015) — Make-A-Wish® Arizona raised more than $765,000 during the 2015 Make-A-Wish Arizona Studio 540 Wish Ball presented by GoDaddy. Proceeds from the event, held on Saturday, April 11, will help grant 102 Arizona wishes.

The Wish Ball, which celebrates the mission of Make-A-Wish Arizona by raising funds to grant the wishes of Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions, has long been a significant event for the chapter. This year, the 1970s disco themed evening was attended by more than 550 people who, including City of Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, dressed in colorful patterns and styles from the era to show their support.

In addition to being a fundraiser for future Arizona wishes, the event honored current Make-A-Wish Arizona Board Chairman Derrick Hall, president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks, with the Tom and Madena Stewart Lifetime Compassion Award. The award recognizes outstanding community members who have brought honor to themselves, Make-A-Wish Arizona, and the communities where they work and live.

The evening also featured a special national award presentation by David Williams, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish® America. Bob and Renee Parsons were recognized as Philanthropists of the Year by Williams for their significant commitment to Make-A-Wish over the past six years. Through The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, the couple have gifted more than $6.3 million to the Arizona chapter, including a recent gift of almost $3 million to support the purchase of the chapter’s new home, The Parsons Wish House.

“We are all put on this earth to help each other,” said Make-A-Wish Arizona Board Member Renee Parsons. “Sometimes the smallest gestures of kindness, the granting of a seemingly simple wish, can make the biggest difference. Being part of that difference for Arizona Wish Kids and their families is one of our greatest joys.”

Renee Parsons, who served as co-chair of the 2013 and 2014 Wish Balls, again partnered with Jennifer Moser, of Rose+Moser+Allyn Public & Online Relations, to co-chair the ball. This year’s fun Studio 540 theme had special meaning to the co-chairs and organization as more than 540 children in Arizona are diagnosed annually with life-threatening medical conditions that would make them eligible for a wish.

Beyond the awards and silent auction, event highlights included a heartfelt video tribute and an energetic live auction, made more exciting by Bob Parsons who created a bidding frenzy over a 2015 Dyna Low Rider donated by Harley-Davidson of Scottsdale. Parsons offered to match the total bid with a cash donation and get a tattoo with the winner.

“Bob and Renee and Derrick have truly embraced our chapter, dedicating not only their dollars, but also their time and talents, toward our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child in Arizona,” said Elizabeth Reich, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “With the money raised during our event, we can grant an additional 102 wishes in the coming year, providing hope, strength and joy to more wish kids and their families than ever before.”

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Invests $3.5MM to Help Continue Hope for Haiti’s Mission.

Proven Model for Sustainable Communities Inspires Renewed Hope for the Future

Naples, FL (March 31, 2015) – Five years after a catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti and 25 years after Hope for Haiti began its charitable work, progress is evident. Rural Haiti is developing. Thanks to the unfaltering commitment of Hope for Haiti donors, including inaugural Heart Society members Bob and Renee Parsons, a successful model for sustainable communities has been realized.

The Parsons, who have made delivering hope to others a cornerstone of their charitable work, have supported Hope for Haiti’s humanitarian efforts since 2010. In February 2015, the couple made their third trip to Haiti to see first-hand the impact of their five-year commitment.

What they discovered during their trip was a remarkable transformation.

“During our first visit to Haiti four years ago, we realized how very special the Haitian people are,” said Bob Parsons. “We also recognized that Haiti is a place where our help can make a real difference. Today, the progress is encouraging and there is a renewed sense of hope among the people; but there is still a lot of work to be done.”

There are many notable signs of progress in Hope for Haiti’s partner communities.  The two schools visited by the Parsons have grown to serve more than 1,000 students and, for the first time, these students have the potential to graduate and continue their education in college or vocational school. Gardens now produce fresh vegetables for the school lunch program and wells provide clean, potable water for the entire community.

Additional signs of progress include the build-out and enhancement of school structures and facilities, the redirection of a ravine that was threatening to wash away a school, and the founding of the very first girls soccer teams.

“Our relationship with the people of Haiti has brought us great joy,” said Renee Parsons. “We plan to support efforts to continue the progress, so that the people of an often forgotten nation can have the means and foundation to know the prosperity much of the rest of world enjoys.”

As a result of their mission trip, Bob and Renee Parsons announced a $3.5 million grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation to continue to improve the quality of life for the people of Haiti.

The grant will enable Hope for Haiti to significantly enhance and expand medical services at Infirmary St. Etienne. The expansion will increase the capacity of the facility by 20 percent, helping insure no man, woman or child in need of outpatient care is turned away. The gift will also allow for further improvements to the Foyer St. Etienne, a home for abandoned seniors, and continued support for the orphaned children at Missionaries of Charity.

“The Parsons not only invest in our programs, they invest in each individual we serve,” Hope for Haiti CEO Tiffany Kuehner added. “Their multi-year commitment and long-term vision has allowed Hope for Haiti to accelerate its work in creating sustainable communities and tackle poverty at its core for generations to come.”

Semper Fi Fund’s 10 for 10 Challenge Raises $12MM in Less Than 2 Months to Help Injured Service Members.

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, with Support from GoDaddy, Matches Donations Dollar-for-Dollar

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (January 13, 2014) – Semper Fi Fund today announced the results of the 10 for 10 Challenge, one of the largest matching campaigns in the history of veteran non-profits. Thanks to The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, GoDaddy, and thousands of supporters who gave to the Semper Fi Fund this holiday season, the challenge raised an unprecedented $12 million – $2 million more than the original goal.

The 10 for 10 Challenge was launched on November 1, 2014, with a goal to raise $10 million for wounded, critically ill and injured service members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Donors, recognizing the significant opportunity to double the impact of their gifts, quickly rose to the occasion and Semper Fi Fund hit its target two weeks early.

Moved by the outpouring of support, Bob and Renee Parsons raised the stakes. The couple generously pledged an additional $1 million in matching funds – bringing their total commitment to the 10 for 10 Challenge to $6 million.

“It doesn’t matter whether someone is in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard or Marine Corps, the men and women who serve our country are very special people and they deserve our support,” said businessman and philanthropist Bob Parsons. “Everything I have ever accomplished is because of my service in the Marine Corps – and as long as I’ve got a dime, they’ve got a nickel.”

Over the past ten years, the Semper Fi Fund and its program America’s Fund have assisted over 13,000 veterans. The Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to wounded, critically ill and injured service members, ensuring they have the resources needed during their recovery and transition back to civilian life.

The funds raised through the 10 for 10 Challenge will not only enable the organization to continue critical programs, it will also allow for the introduction of new efforts. The Semper Fi Fund looks to expand its programs associated with the diagnosis and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicide prevention.

“What incredible generosity, and what an amazing way to celebrate the holiday season in our 10th anniversary year,” said Semper Fi Fund Founder and CEO Karen Guenther. “We can’t thank Bob and Renee Parsons enough, and we can’t thank all of our donors enough. It’s incredible that we’ve met such a monumental goal considering just ten years ago we had an idea and $500! This is the best holiday gift I could ever imagine!”

Make-A-Wish® Arizona’s Wish for a New Home Granted by The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation.

Wish Kid Lauren shares the value of a wish

Chapter’s Wish Granting Capacity to Grow to Eventually Reach Every Eligible Child in Arizona

Phoenix, AZ (January 6, 2014) – Thanks to a $2.8 million gift from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, Make-A-Wish® Arizona will soon be moving into a new Wish House. The new property will enable the organization to expand its wish granting capacity to eventually reach every eligible child in Arizona.

The grant also provides for most of the renovation and refurbishment of the new 11,000-square-foot property, located near Thomas and Hayden Road in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Make-A-Wish® Arizona has operated in its current location for more than 20 years. During that period the organization has grown its wish granting capacity from fewer than 125 to 330 wishes per year.

“The need for functional space for our staff, volunteers and the families we serve far exceeds the capacity of our current facility,” said Elizabeth Reich, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Arizona. “Operating within the confines of our current space, we simply cannot grow to serve more children.”

Bob Parsons Grants MAW Arizona's Wish for a New Home

“The new Wish House, so generously made possible by Bob and Renee Parsons, will provide a central location for our wish families and our volunteers, offering a home base of support that will help our chapter reach its vision,” said Derrick Hall, president and CEO of the Arizona Diamondbacks and current board chair for Make-A-Wish Arizona. “Our Board is excited to work with the many advantages this new home will bring.”

An average of 550 Arizona children are newly diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions every year, making them eligible for a wish. Currently, children are referred to Make-A-Wish Arizona at a rate of approximately 400 per year – 50 more than the chapter is able to grant annually. No eligible wish goes ungranted, however the wait for some may be longer than desired.

“As the founding chapter, we are proud that one Arizona boy’s wish started a movement that now reaches children worldwide,” Reich added. “The new Wish House is a game-changer for our chapter. With the Parsons’ gift, Make-A-Wish Arizona will be able to expand our reach within our community to make more wishes come true.”

Make-A-Wish Arizona relies entirely on donors, both individual and corporate, to support their mission of granting the wishes of Arizona children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Bob and Renee Parsons are active donors with Make-A-Wish Arizona, having pledged more than $6.3 million to the organization over the last two years. Renee Parsons also volunteers her time to the organization as a member of the Board of Directors and as a co-chair for the Wish Ball.

“When a child is diagnosed with a life threatening illness their entire family is sent into a tailspin –challenged in ways most of us can’t imagine,” said Renee Parsons. “The new Wish House will be a beacon of hope for these families, and every wish granted a chance to inspire strength and joy.”

$800K Grant Supports Educare Arizona’s Mission to Prepare At-Risk Youth for Kindergarten & Beyond.

Bob Parsons Partners with Educare Arizona to Prepare At-Risk Youth for Kindergarten

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Helps Fill a Void in State Funding for Early Childhood Education in the Balsz School District

PHOENIX, AZ (Dec. 4, 2014) – To help transform the lives of impoverished children through education, The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation has awarded Educare Arizona an $800,000 grant. The grant will support Educare Arizona’s capacity-building and strategic growth strategies. This will enable the agency to sustain its operations and programs that serve some of the state’s poorest children.

“Every child deserves a top notch education,” said businessman and philanthropist Bob Parsons.  “Unfortunately, many of the most vulnerable children in our community are likely to fail before they even get started. The resources just aren’t there.”

Arizona eliminated funding for early childhood education in 2010. The cut significantly affected disadvantaged families who don’t have the resources to invest in early childhood programs.

In the Balsz School District, 92 percent of students come from families living below the poverty level. Unassisted, approximately 75 percent of these children will enter kindergarten without mastering English. By fifth grade these students will be nearly three grade levels behind their peers in literacy.

To bridge the educational divide, Educare Arizona provides full-day, full-year preschool for nearly 200 children in the Balsz School District. The program helps ensure the school readiness of children at greatest risk for academic failure. By offering high quality early learning, family support, and health care, the agency enables disadvantaged children to enter kindergarten with the same skills as their more affluent peers.

“Bob and I believe that early childhood education is a necessary investment for the future of our community,” said Renee Parsons. “If given the chance to develop a love of learning, many of these children will have the ammunition they need to successfully graduate from high school and move on to an even brighter future as an adult.”

“Educare Arizona provides a solid educational foundation for low-income children,” said Educare Arizona CEO John Scola. “We are so grateful to The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation for its investment in Educare Arizona’s long-term sustainability. With the Foundation’s support we look forward to continuing our mission to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond.”

Bob Parsons added, “Programs like Educare go a long way to change the future for kids. Educare Arizona gives children and their families hope – and hope is what The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation is all about.”

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Partners with TheDream.US to Award College Scholarships to Arizona DREAMers.

$4MM Campaign Supports DACA Approved Youth & Their Pursuit of the American Dream

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (Dec. 2, 2014) – The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation is spearheading a movement to bring national scholarship monies to Arizona to help motivated DREAMers pursue their educational goals. TheDream.US, a national scholarship program focused on providing affordable, high-quality education to undocumented students, has partnered with The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation for the Arizona initiative. Together, the organizations will match donations raised by the community and business leaders, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2 million.

More than 21,000 young immigrants in Arizona have received Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) approval, making Arizona the sixth largest community of DACA approved immigrants in the nation and thousands more will now be eligible under the new Deferred Action Program. On obtaining DACA status young immigrants are legally able to live and work in the United States.

Many of these highly motivated young adults want to earn a college degree and contribute to the prosperity of our state. But, with no access to federal financial aid and limited access to scholarship funds the prospects are bleak. Regardless of how long they have lived in Arizona, young immigrants who graduate from local schools face paying unaffordable out-of-state tuition to attend Arizona’s four year universities.

“These children are victims of their situation, a situation that has them living in a country where they are not supported,” said Bob Parsons. “DREAMers can’t change where they came from or how they got here, but we can certainly help change their prospects for the future.”

“We, as a nation, have an opportunity to leverage the investment we have already made in these young, highly motivated men and women,” said TheDream.US President Candy Marshall.  “By offering a scholarship fund, we support DREAMers in joining our next generation of talented health care providers, educators, accountants, scientists, software developers and social workers.”

The challenge grant has the potential to raise $4 million, which will support hundreds of Arizona DREAMers in obtaining associate’s and bachelor’s degrees through several Maricopa Community Colleges and Arizona State University.

“The matching challenge is a perfect way to strengthen our commitment to Arizona and encourage DREAMers not only to become responsible citizens, but also leaders in our community,” Bob Parsons added.

“It is unfortunate that many bright young adults find themselves in a situation where they are unable to pursue their full potential, even after years of being a top performer in school,” said philanthropist Renee Parsons. “These highly motivated youth are a part of Arizona’s future and they deserve not only our support, but also the hope that they too can achieve their American dream.”

TheDream.US founders, partners and donors are determined to make a difference for accomplished DREAMers. While Bob and Renee Parsons are the catalyst for bringing the national scholarship program to Arizona, they join fellow  Giving Pledge signatories Bill and Melinda Gates, Pierre and Pam Omidyar, Michael Bloomberg and Mark Zuckerberg in supporting DREAMers and TheDream.US.

Million Dollar Matching Campaign Supports Teach For America’s High Stakes Work in Arizona.

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Pledges 2:1 Matching Dollars to Help Raise Funds to Address Educational Inequity

PHOENIX, AZ (November 4, 2014) – Teach For America–Phoenix today announced a matching challenge, with the potential to raise $1.5 million, in an effort to recruit and prepare up to 100 new teachers in the metro Phoenix area within the next year. The challenge, issued by The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, will help raise critical funds to support the continuation of vital educator development programs that impact high-risk, underserved schools.

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation will match all donations, two-to-one, up to a million dollars between now and November 30, 2014. The matching challenge will ensure that Teach For America–Phoenix is able to continue to serve district and charter schools across the state as an additional source of talented and diverse educators for high-need, low-income classrooms. This service is particularly critical given recent reports of teacher shortages across the state that disproportionately impact students in under-resourced communities.

“Bob and I believe that Teach for America’s programs are producing highly motivated teachers who have the capacity to change the future for thousands of underserved children in our community,” said Renee Parsons, co-founder of The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation. “These teachers become role models for students who rely heavily on educators for stability, structure, a sense of self-worth and the opportunity to excel.”

More than 700 Teach For America alumni live and work in Arizona, and nearly 70 percent remain in education as teachers, instructional specialists, and school leaders and founders. Virtually all program graduates become lifelong advocates for education and many continue mission-aligned work including policy, advocacy, and nonprofit leadership following their participation.

Bob Parsons Supports Teach for America

“We’re thrilled to receive support from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation,” said Lindsay DeFrancisco, executive director of Teach For America–Phoenix. “By working arm-in-arm with veteran educators, students, families, and community leaders, like Bob and Renee Parsons, to develop teachers who foster truly exceptional classrooms we know we can be an important part of local efforts to transform education for Arizona’s lowest income communities.”

“The future of our state hinges on the success of our teachers and the kids they serve,” said businessman and philanthropist Bob Parsons. “It is our hope that the two-to-one matching challenge will inspire people to get involved and give what they can. Together we can make a lasting difference.”

Semper Fi Fund Announces 10 for 10 Challenge to Raise $10MM in 2 Months to Help Injured Veterans.

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, with Support from GoDaddy, Will Match Donations Dollar-for-Dollar to Semper Fi Fund

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 3, 2014) – This November, the Semper Fi Fund rounds out its 10th anniversary year with the 10 for 10 Challenge – a matching campaign with the potential to raise $10 million for wounded, critically ill and injured veterans. The challenge, issued by The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, with support from GoDaddy, is one of the largest matching campaigns in the history of veteran non-profits. Beginning today through December 31, 2014, all donations to the Semper Fi Fund and America’s Fund will be matched, dollar-for-dollar.

Over the past ten years, the Semper Fi Fund and its program America’s Fund have assisted nearly 13,000 veterans. The Fund provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to wounded, critically ill and injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, ensuring they have the resources needed during their recovery and transition back to civilian life.

The matching campaign represents an opportunity for donors to double the impact of their gifts to the veteran non-profit. GoDaddy customers who purchase products during this time can also elect to “Round Up for Charity” when checking out at GoDaddy. By selecting the Semper Fi Fund as the beneficiary, GoDaddy customers can effectively donate their spare change to the Challenge.

For GoDaddy Founder Bob Parsons, a U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, giving back to the men and women who support our country has always been a top priority.

“The most important things I have ever learned I learned from the Marine Corps,” said Bob Parsons. “I learned there is very little we can accomplish alone. Through the ‘10 for 10 Challenge’ we have the opportunity to rally the community, raise awareness and provide much needed and deserved support to our wounded, injured and critically ill service members who have sacrificed so much to protect the freedoms we enjoy.”

“The matching challenge is a significant opportunity for all of us to step-up and strengthen our commitment to our country’s wounded veterans,” said Renee Parsons. “If you can’t give a lot, give a little; no amount is too small. Together we will make a difference.”

Both The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation and GoDaddy, the world’s largest technology provider dedicated to small businesses, have a rich history of supporting our nation’s service men and women. The 10 for 10 Challenge will be the third consecutive holiday matching campaign the organizations have spearheaded on behalf of the Semper Fi Fund. Over the last two years the campaign has helped raise more than $8 million. This year, The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation, with support from GoDaddy, hopes to help raise $10 million by providing up to $5 million in matching funds for the veteran non-profit.

“We are deeply grateful to The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation and GoDaddy for their ongoing support of our injured, ill, and wounded service members,” said Karen Guenther, CEO of the Semper Fi Fund. “They have made an amazing difference in the lives of so many families on their long journey to recovery. Their love, passion and dedication to helping our military members and families is a true inspiration to us all.”

The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Makes $2MM Commitment to Delivering Health Care to Homeless Individuals.

Circle the City to Open New Center to Meet the Primary Health Care Needs of Maricopa County’s Homeless Community

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (September 9, 2014) – Today, Circle the City announced it will dramatically expand its medical services for homeless individuals, thanks to a $2 million grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation. The organization will launch a new primary health care center, The Parsons Family Health Center at Circle the City, to address the complex medical needs of the homeless population. The new Parsons Family Health Center will enable the organization to expand its programming to reach more than 3,500 new patients annually.

In Maricopa County more than 17,000 people experience homelessness each year, which greatly exceeds the community’s current capacity to meet the health care needs of this population.

“One of the greatest barriers to relieving homelessness is access to health care,” said Sister Adele O’Sullivan, CSJ, M.D., Circle the City’s founder and medical director. “The grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation will enable Circle the City to build a medical home for the homeless, connecting them with desperately needed primary health care services.”

The Parsons Family Health Center at Circle the City is projected to open in summer 2015 at a location near the organization’s current Medical Respite Center. The new facility will offer a continuum of health care for a population that frequently seeks medical attention via emergency rooms and 911 calls. The health center will feature 10-15 exam rooms and a team of clinicians who are experienced in treating the acute and frequently chronic health concerns of the homeless population.

Circle the City currently operates a 50-bed Medical Respite Center, which provides a holistic approach to healing for homeless individuals recently released from the hospital. Patients have access to case management services; behavioral health counseling; physical, occupational, and speech therapy; psychiatric assessment; substance abuse therapy; and an array of volunteer-led activities, all integrated into comprehensive plans of care.

“Circle the City offers our most vulnerable citizens the best possible care – care that promotes physical, psychological and financial health all under one roof,” said entrepreneur and philanthropist Bob Parsons. “Through the new Parsons Family Health Center I believe that thousands of people will be given the chance to improve their health and, ultimately, recover their lives.”

The new Center will operate in tandem with the Medical Respite Center. Patients whose conditions warrant more intensive treatment will be admitted to the Respite Center, helping decrease the frequency and necessity for expensive hospital admissions.

“Circle the City is committed to addressing gaps that exist in the local continuum of homeless health care,” said Brandon Clark, Circle the City’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are so thankful for the continued support from Bob and Renee Parsons. In awarding this grant, their compassion will again directly assist the most vulnerable in our community, providing both healing and hope.”
